The Best Beef Brisket

Total Time: 3 hrs 30 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 3 hrs

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 6 lbs beef brisket
  • 6 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 3 medium onions, sliced
  • 3 -4 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon oil

Recipe

  • 1 trim fat on briskett.
  • 2 soak brisket for 30 minutes in water.
  • 3 drain.
  • 4 sprinkle meat with kosher salt and let sit 30 minutes.
  • 5 rinse meat well.
  • 6 braise meat in olive oil until brown, approximately 8 minutes per side.
  • 7 reduce heat and add onions.
  • 8 brown.
  • 9 add garlic.
  • 10 remove meat.
  • 11 add all ingredients for sauce.
  • 12 stir well.
  • 13 put meat back in pan and simmer covered for approximately 3 hours.
  • 14 remove meat and reduce sauce.
