Tangy Flank Steak

Total Time: 7 hrs 15 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 7 hrs

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 1/2 lbs beef flank steak
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, quartered and sliced
  • 4 ounces chopped green chilies, drained (optional)
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

Recipe

  • 1 cut flank steak in half if needed to fit in crock pot.
  • 2 in a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown flank steak in oil.
  • 3 place in crock pot.
  • 4 in skillet, place onion, green chilies if desired, water, vinegar, chili powder, garlic powder, sugar, salt and pepper.
  • 5 bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring to loosen browned bits from bottom of skillet.
  • 6 pour over meat.
  • 7 cover and cook on high for 3 to 3 1/2 hours or on low for 6 to 7 hours or until meat is very tender.
  • 8 transfer meat to a warm platter.
  • 9 slice meat diagonally.
  • 10 remove onion from slow cooker with a slotted spoon and arrange around meat.
  • 11 if desired, baste with juices.
