Tender & Tasty Grilled London Broil

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup shallot, chopped
  • 3 large garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • crushed red pepper flakes, to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup dry red wine
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 lbs boneless london broil beef (about 1 1/2-inches thick) or 2 lbs top round steaks (about 1 1/2-inches thick)

Recipe

  • 1 in a medium-size, heavy-bottomed saucepan heat the oil over moderate heat.
  • 2 add the shallots and saute until soft (about 5 minutes).
  • 3 add the remaining ingredients except the meat; bring to a boil.
  • 4 remove marinade from heat and let cool.
  • 5 pour the cooled marinade into a large resealable plastic bag; add the beef. with the bag securely closed turn gently until beef is evenly coated. refrigerate overnight; turn bag ocassionally.
  • 6 transfer the beef to a platter and bring to room temperature.
  • 7 meanwhile, lightly grease the grill rack. preheat grill to medium heat.
  • 8 remove steak from marinade; reserving marinade. grill the beef 3 to 4 inches from the heat source for 8 to 10 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
  • 9 brush with reserved marinade after turning. discard leftover marinade.
  • 10 let the beef stand for 5 minutes; slice into thin slices across the grain.
